ISIC (Izibane Social Investment Club) was born from its member's desire to assist their community through selfless service. ISIC originated in South Africa’s volatile 1980’s, a time when community members of Paarl and Mbekweni chose to share their experiences and relations through the sport of rugby. They understood that they would be able to use competitive sport as a vehicle to their aims and therefore formed the Izibane (Highlights) Rugby Club. It was evident that this initiative was thoroughly embraced by the Paarl community especially, as they registered in droves. Unfortunately, as the years advanced, the club would eventually disband.
Although the Izibane Rugby Club had ceased to exist, it had created lasting friendships, some of which would always carry the inspiring creed of their youth with them throughout their years. This would eventually lead to the formation of an organization which reignited these endearing qualities, a new organisation known as ISIC.
The purpose of ISIC as an entity is to weaponise the skillsets of its grassroots community against poverty, illiteracy, generational degrading and other socio-politic struggles which this community faces. Thorough research on this task uncovered that the work behind it would be just as immense as the need for it within the community. Due to this it was strategized to create sustainable values through models of selfless service with the aims of leaving an indelible imprint on the community.
Practical programming will steer these aims and through it a mass consciousness and commitment are envisaged. ISIC members in particular want to place a strong and persistent focus on creating opportunities for the youth as they herald the future. Often they are impacted by and challenged in very real and complex ways by the failings of society which arose from the volatile history of our country. Through their efforts, the ISIC members wish to establish a well-rounded crop of wise and sophisticated peer youth leadership who relate and resonate with a large and wide-ranging group of young people.
After lengthy negotiations and groundwork, ISIC was officially registered as a Non-Profit Company on 4th December 2017.
